Halloween Decor 2011

I count down the last days of September in anticipation of digging out my Halloween decorations. There is just something about the orange glow of the lights and the vintage wooden creatures staring back at me from every flat surface in my home – I just LOVE the items I’ve collected over the years.

From the spooky spell books to the old school luggage – my cowboy pumpkin proudly sits with his cat treat bucket…

I think the best part of decorating is putting items in new places each year. I am not the girl that has a specific place for everything. I lay each decoration out on several tables and pretend like I’m shopping in my own boutique. I grab something and walk around until I find the perfect place. There is nothing fun to me about putting items in the exact same spots… year after year.

I found some wooden pumpkin garland at Homegoods this year and I used wire cutters to separate the pumpkins and stars to use as ornaments on my black feather trees.

This guy is a new addition to my pumpkin family. My Mom and I picked him up at Tuesday Morning.

I mixed flicker flame lights into the fall foliage and flipping on the light switches is my favorite part of coming home at night. Seeing Dan and Higgy isn’t too bad either ;).

This is the first year that I haven’t had jars and bowls of candy everywhere for weeks. Way too tempting, especially in their handy dandy mini sizes. I bought our candy for trick-or-treaters Friday night. We get several hundred kids each year – I ended up with 10 big bags. The leftovers go to work with Dan the next day.

My Mom and I both have these sparkly jingle bell spiders… more cheerful, less creepy crawly.

I purchased some new Pottery Barn shelves a few months back and can’t wait to fill the cubbyholes with Christmas decor.  I only put a few things in them for Halloween.

Kind of sad that I will soon be taking down my Halloween friends. I strip Halloween things out and leave the orange lights and fall leaves up. I then add a few Thanksgiving themed put-arounds. All of this in anticipation of breaking out my Christmas totes Thanksgiving weekend. I’m already dreaming of ways to change up Christmas this year. Some call it an obsession, for me it’s my favorite hobby – with cooking, blogging, and photography following close behind.

I have really appreciated the decor photos and links that some of you have sent to me. I’m glad there are other holiday fans out there.

Happy Halloween from my home to yours…
