Hanukkah Dinner With Friends…

Last night we celebrated day four of Hanukkah with our friends. Deede had mentioned wanting to make a special dinner for Josh and I’m always up for entertaining and was honored to be part of their celebration. I provided the location and Deede took care of the food.

I wanted to create a special table setting for the dinner. As my table is centered around Christmas decor, I stripped it down and immediately started thinking of options using things I already owned. I found a template for dreidel place cards on Martha Stewart’s website. I busted out some card stock and got to tracing and cutting.

I created quite the mess, but they turned out pretty decent – and they were easy enough to create.

I used some satin and grosgrain blue ribbon to run down the center of the table. My wedding china was perfect for the occasion. I also broke out my crystal stemware, mini salt and pepper shakers, my grandmother’s monogrammed white napkins and silver napkin rings. The table turned out really nice.

Party of 5 (loved that TV show) ready to feast.

Aaron, Deede and Josh arrived and the meal prep got underway. Deede brought her cookbook and supplies and got to work.

We put newspaper down so the granite would be protected from oil splatters. We aren’t paper subscribers, so I had to use mailer ads – classy. The special potato latkes sizzled away in the oil and my kitchen counter tops were safe.

Deede brought sour cream and apple sauce for latke toppings. I’d never had latkes with apple sauce, and wow… was that good!

While we were inhaling latkes, the matzo balls were cooking away in the chicken soup. Deede made the chicken stock earlier in the day.

Shredded chicken, matzo balls, carrots, celery, parsnips and potatoes…

A fun night of good food and friends – just what we all needed.  Now we’re off to celebrate Christmas Eve with my family. I’ve been baking up a storm, whipping up appetizers, creating a Christmas movie for my family of old photos and just running around like crazy. Looking forward to hanging out with the fam tonight and eating Aim’s famous lasagna.

Happy Holidays to you and your families,
