{"id":5228,"date":"2011-07-09T08:37:41","date_gmt":"2011-07-09T16:37:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/foodiddy.com\/?p=5228"},"modified":"2011-07-13T17:44:41","modified_gmt":"2011-07-14T01:44:41","slug":"star-spangled-burger-palooza-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/foodiddy.com\/?p=5228","title":{"rendered":"Star Spangled Burger-Palooza Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our 4th of July party turned out to be a huge success.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5229\" title=\"IMG_4850\" src=\"http:\/\/foodiddy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_4850.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"372\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/foodiddy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_4850.jpg 372w, http:\/\/foodiddy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_4850-248x300.jpg 248w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 372px) 100vw, 372px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Everyone showed up with coolers and bags full of cooking ingredients and supplies to create their burger masterpieces.<\/p>\n<p>We divided the contest into two categories &#8211; Beef Burgers and Alternative Burgers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beef Burger<br \/>\n<\/strong>To qualify, patties must contain at least 75% beef (not veal).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alternative Burger<\/strong><br \/>\nTo qualify, patties may be made from anything edible and does not meet the requirements for the beef category.<\/p>\n<p>All burgers in both categories had to be served on buns or other bakery products (such as bisquits, focaccia, flatbreads, muffins, tortillas, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>All burgers could contain any combination of condiments.<\/p>\n<p>All burgers were to include a burger name and recipe. Contestants provided 12 quarter samples (3 burgers) for tasting. Attendees were asked to keep the following criteria in mind when determining a favorite:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Creativity &#8211; Creative name and or use of ingredients<\/li>\n<li>Taste &#8211; Do you want to eat more?<\/li>\n<li>Visual Appeal &#8211; Does it look appetizing?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5231\" title=\"IMG_4841\" src=\"http:\/\/foodiddy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_4841.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"359\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/foodiddy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_4841.jpg 359w, http:\/\/foodiddy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_4841-215x300.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 359px) 100vw, 359px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Each burger had a vote cup that included a sheet with the burger&#8217;s name. Attendees placed the blue sticks into the cup of the beef burger they liked the best and the red sticks into the cup of the alternative burger they liked the best. After the re-vote, I won&#8230; it was totally rigged ;-).<\/p>\n<p>When all was said and done, we each consumed 2 burgers and a 1\/4 wedge of a 3rd. We were stuffed! Cookin&#8217; up burgers, cannonballs off the pool wall, sister swim races between my Aunt and Mom and lots of laughs. I think my niece jumped into the pool over 100 times.<\/p>\n<p>So. Much.
